So I got the opportunity to blog For Northpark Center last week, detailing my 5 menswear essentials for every man. These are important to me. I think when building a wardrobe, you want to focus on QUALITY over QUANTITY. I selected 5 products from terrific stores all within Northpark Center that I believe are interchangeable and should be staples of any man’s closet. Big thanks to Catharine Flagg at Northpark and her great team for a fun day running around working.
I will have a more detailed post over what I think a man starting his wardrobe out of college or just an everyday man should focus on buying to where he has a versatile, interchangeable wardrobe. All of these staples here are to be included, as I think they help build the foundation of a good wardrobe. If you look at all of the pieces, they can be worn and styled in many different ways. I will post a long-read of sorts on this coming in the next couple of weeks, hoping to help guide you in buying the right things for your closet.
Without further ado.. here are my 5 menswear essentials for men everywhere!
White Oxford Shirt from Hugo Boss
You can pair a white oxford with just about anything in your closet. That’s what I try to do when building a wardrobe, buy pieces that you can mix and match with anything. Wear it under a blazer for date night, throw it on with chinos and wingtips, or put it on with a pair of shorts and sneakers. Versatile. Make sure it fits you in all the right places like this one from Hugo Boss.
Denim Shirt from 7 For All Mankind
The coolest thing about the denim shirt is that it’s timeless. You can wear it with black denim, or light khaki chinos. Be bold and even throw it on with denim jeans.. Just make sure it’s a different wash (either lighter or darker) than your denim.
Statement Sportcoat from Canali
Pair it with the white oxford above and make a statement. Keep in mind; your jacket is loud so keep the rest of your outfit simple. You want people looking at your jacket.. let it speak for itself.
Cotton Sweater from Banana Republic
Transition from season to season with a smart layering piece from Banana Republic. I love wearing mine under a jacket with a shirt underneath, but you could just as easily throw it over your white shirt that I mentioned and under your statement sportcoat. Let it shine on its own in the summer with a pair of linen shorts.
Navy Suit from Ermenegildo Zegna
Nothing brings out the best more than a quality, well fitting suit. This one from Zegna hits all of the right notes but make sure you bring it right away to your tailor. I like a navy suit for your first suit rather than a charcoal gray because it’s a deeper color, and more versatile. While a charcoal gray one feels more business-like, a navy one can be worn there or just as easily worn out with an open shirt for a cool relaxed feel.
