Summer time is to me, synonymous with linen and the lighter fabrics designed for warmer weather. This one from J. Crew is no different. I absolutely love linen shirts. The perfect weight and the perfect piece to go from office to picnic or an after-work BBQ, it’s light enough to not make you sweat through the day. In Texas it’s tough to find fabrics in the summer that are breathable, but linen is just the one. Stick to your lighter cottons and linens and you’ll be happy with your decision. Speaking of work, this look is one that can just as easily be transitioned from work hours to after hours. If you swap my sneakers for oxfords and throw on a tie, I’d be ready for just about any workplace. I think that’s one thing guys struggle with most.
I was talking with a friend of mine who works at Frye, Elzie, and we both agreed that it seems the toughest place guys have dressing is on the weekend and outside of the workplace. You see a guy in a suit, and they know what they’re doing for the most part… But come weekend time or happy hour, all bets are off. It seems all or nothing. There are tons of ways to dress for the weekend without being sloppy.
For example, when you get off work, ditch the tie and throw on some leather sneakers like these from Cole Haan or Frye and you’ll be the coolest guy at happy hour. And this is a relatively new thing for me, the half-tuck-this-happened-casually thing with the tucked shirt to show off the belt, but I’m a fan. Instead of a baggy shirt, it gives you the ability to show off your belt like this one from Gap or if you’ve got a cool braided leather one like this one here.
All in all, it’s going to be a long hot summer, but if you switch over to the right fabrics you’ll be stylish AND cool.
